Sollten Probleme mit dem Theme auftauchen, so würde ich Dich bitten, mir einige Informationen mit auf den Weg zu geben. So ist es hilfreich, wenn ich weiß, welche WordPress-Version Du nutzt, welche PHP-Version auf Deinem Server läuft und welche Version von Grey Opaque Du nutzt. Auch wäre es schön zu wissen, was Du getan hast, als dieser Fehler aufgetreten ist, damit ich es eventuell reproduzieren kann.

Hi, I have installed the Opaque Grey theme and had one question.
How can yu manage the sidebar on theleft with the ‘share this’, ‘trackback’ and ‘permalink’ menus?
Is there a way to make this specific to the requirments of my own?
Also, is there a way to remove the date, time and author name above these links?
If these changes are available, would it need to be done within the theme on WP or within one of the theme’s PHP files.

Hi Nick,
To edit the infobox, you have to create a child theme and edit the function for greyopaque_the_infobox().
In a future release I think there are options for the Infobox in themes settings page
Leider verstehe ich weder von php noch css großartig was, somit verstehe ich auch nicht im Geringsten, woher die Infobox kommt. Nicht mal ihren Klartext finde ich in den Dateien…dabei wollte ich eigentlich nur die “Teile diesen Artikel”-Funktion losbekommen, weil ja bereits das share-Plugin vom Autor dieses Themes das datenschutzkonform erledigt und ich damit keinen Bedarf für weitere bunte Teilen-Knöpfe habe.
Vielleicht kann ja jemand einen Tip geben, ob ich das mit einfachen Mitteln der Art “irgendwas auskommentieren” hinbekomme
könnntest du mir vielleicht genauer erklären wie das mit dem child theme funktioniert…

In the meatime, I have run into a bigger problem.
I installed the ‘WP Content Slide’ plugin and tried to add the PHP code to the header.php file, the .php fil then becam blank.
I tried re pasting the text back into the file but nothing updates.
I have tried uninstalling the theme and re installing it but now it will not re install..
Would you be able to help at all?

Hi Nick,
if you “killed” the theme, delete it via FTP and reinstall via your Dashboard. For any personalizing I recommend a child-theme, so you dont harm the theme itself.

ich habe ein problem mit den Artikelbildern in der Kopfzeile. Wenn ich ein Bild zugewiesen habe erscheint das auch ein zweitesmal im Textberreich, aber nur über den Blog selber. Im Adminbereich sehe ich das nicht im Textfeld. Wie bekomme ich das weg? Ich bin absoluter Anfänger und taste mich erst ran an die Sache, wäre schön wenn du mir helfen kannst.

Mir ist nicht ganz klar, wo genau das Problem liegt. Aber das Verhalten der Artikelbilder ist WordPress-Standard. Sie sind oben als Thumbnail im Artikel selbst zu sehen, und wenn das Original groß genug ist, auch als Headerbild des Artikels selbst. Ich werde eventuell demnächst eine Abfrage einbauen, welche ermittelt, ob das Bild groß genu ist und dann nur noch das Headerbld anzeigen lassen im Einzelartikel. Im Dashboard selbst ist das Artikelbild beim Editieren des Artikels nicht zu sehen, zumindest nicht im Textfeld. Das ist auch normal so. Zu sehen ist es dort in der Box “Artikelbild”.

siehst du oben die Berge in der Kopfzeile, wenn man jetzt auf projekte geht und da auf meine Simson geht möchte ich dort ein anderes Bild einfügen (ich dachte das geht über Artikelbild). Das Bild soll aber nicht im Textfeld erscheinen. Vielleicht kannst du jetzt mehr mit meinem Problem anfangen.

Worum es im Großen und Ganzen geht, ist mir schon bewusst. Aber wie ich schon sagte, so wie es momentan ist, ist es WordPress-Standard. In einer der nächsten Versionen werde ich da jedoch einen kleinen Fix einbauen, der in dem Fall nur noch das Headerbild anzeigt, sofern dieses angezeigt werden soll. Wann das der Fall sein wird, kann ich noch nicht sagen, da ich beruflich im Moment sehr viel zu tun habe.

Das erscheint auch schon, wenn ich die Vorschau aus den admin-Seiten aufrufen will.
WordPress ist 3.2.1 in Deutsch, der Server ein IIS mit php5 und mysql in aktueller Version und steht in meinem direkten administrativen Zugriff, ja, ich gestehe, ich selbst habe die komplette Installation verbrochen. Kranke plugins habe ich meines Erachtens nicht, wptouch, 2 click social media und social profiles sidebar widget, akismet, wp-mail-smtp, das sollte es schon gewesen sein.
Wäre super, wenn es da eine Lösung gäbe – irgendwelche extensions am server aktivieren oder so wäre kein Problem, ich weiß eben nur nicht, wo ich da suchen sollte.

All is going well with the exception of 2 things:
1- my friend would like to see disappear the left side column.
2- the header image is always blurred and it looks like it is being re-sized…
I am only an illustrator/graphic designer, unfortunately not a programmer…
Could you please explain to me (in English) how I can :
1.a – remove the content of the left side bar
1.b – free the space occupied by that left side bar for the main content
2 – have a clean and sharp header image

The canvas and buttons are invisible, and when I had alternate text for the canvas for unsupported browsers, it displayed here (I had to take this off because of this problem).

Hi,
This is the way WordPress works. On category overview, searches etc is always only an excerpt showing up. In these excerpts are no codes, no formations. So you’d better write a little introtext, than the <!–more–> an than do your magic with your JS, cavas or what ever..
So in overviwes like categories and searches the introtext will be shown and gives your reader a little info about the article.

Es ist das normale Verhalten von WordPress, dass in der Suche, was Ihr Link ja letztlich ist, sämtliche Formatierungen entfallen. Es wird also jeglicher HTML-Code herausgefiltert und somit auch nur noch ein teil des Beitrags als Vorschau angezeigt. Ich notiere mir das aber mal und denk mir da ne Möglichkeit aus, um dies eventuell umschalten zu lassen..
Zu Punkt 2:
Das müssen Sie mir noch mal genauer erläutern, was Sie da meinten.

Das mit dem Punkt 1. dachte ich mir schon, nur bei meinem alten “Theme Wu Wei” wurden diese eben angezeigt. Wenn Sie hierfür in Zukunft einen Lösung umsetzen könnten währe echt klasse.
Zu 2. meinte ich die Dialogbox “Trackback” welche sich nach dem anklicken dann “Teile diesen Artikel” nennt. deren Inhalt über die Settings sich deaktivieren lassen. So dass bsw. “del.icio.us” nicht mehr angezeigt wird.
Ebenfalls währe es toll Google+ darin mit einzubinden.

Ah, jetzt kann ich mir in etwa vorstellen, was gemeint ist.
Mal etwas Aufklärungsarbeit von meiner Seite. Der Link Trackback ist wirklich nur ein Link zur Trackbackadresse des jeweiligen Artikels. Diese kann man kopieren und in einem anderen Artikel in einem anderen Blog als Referenz heranziehen. Übliche WordPress-Funktion. Die Anzeige mit den Netzwerken zum fröhlichen “sharen” bekommt man immer im Einzelartikel zu sehen. Ja auch da bin ich noch dabei eine Möglichkeit herauszuarbeiten um die einzelnen Netzwerke wählbar zu machen, ohne zu viele Abfragen an die DB stellen zu müssen (technischer Hintergrund vs. Performance). Google+ ist in der aktuellen Dev-Version im Übrigen schon mit vorhanden

I’m very fond of transparent themes, since it’s easy to change the background. I like your theme very much! But – I would like to get rid of the left column, and understood as much as that I have to go into the functions.php, but I’m not really sure about how much of the infobox-code I have to remove?
If you simple remove code, it could be lead to errors. You can replace the function within a child theme giving it a simple return. So you don’t harm the original code or your theme.

Still haven´t solved my problem with the infobox… Tried to put the functions.php in my child-theme catalogue, after having removed all infobox-code from this file. Result: Everything “disappeared”. Restored it with my back up-file via ftp. I have studied the support pages about child-themes concerning the functions-file and understood as much as that in the child-theme it should only contain the part of the code I want to change, all other functions has to be in the main file. Is this right and if so which part of the code? Do I have to link functions.php in the child- theme in the same way as the style.css? Thanks in advance!/Eva

Im trying to adjust the header image to 130px high instead of the default 200px. Ive tried looking in the styles sheet and also adjusting the code by inspecting the element through Chrome but the value keeps changing back to 200.
Which file and piece of code do I change here?

Prinzipiell kann jede Funktion des Themes durch ein Child-Theme überlagert werden um bei Updates auf der sicheren Seite zu bleiben. Die Infobox gehört dazu.

Check ypur chace-settings. At the moment you are minifiing the complete html-output, so some scripts are breaking. If you are logged in, the cache is disabled for you.

Sorry to be a pain, I’m trying to remove the left sidebar for specific pages (forums) I have an IPB forums that I wanna replace with just wordpress forums to make it simpler and ligther for my server… but the left bar uses too much space for my forum page and it will be good to be able to remove it. Could you give me a hint?
To remove the infobox you have to edit the functions.php where you’ll find a function called “greyopaque_the_infobox”. This function is for this box. Give it a simple “return;” in the first line and the box is gone. All other is simple CSS
But please, for adaptions you make, use a child-theme. So you have no trouble with updates.

Well, if you are using you site as a b log only, WordPress will set the linktext to your blogindex automatically to “Home”.
The color of the “back to top” link you can change with CSS.

Well, the feed is working fine and will not be effected by the theme. Also the summary is working fine, but if you are using a service like Feedburner, it will take some time to update your feed there.

Ja, es gibt einen recht simplen Weg den Text gegen ein Bild zu ersetzen. Suche in der functions.php folgende Funktion.

mit Deinem Bildcode, also
Eventuell musst Du auch noch bissle im CSS anpassen.
Aber wie bei allen Modifikationen gilt auch hier, immer nur in einem Child-Theme

It seems thats its a plugin what fails here. And I mind it’s on the translation-plugin. The content on english and german translation is different. On one translation the image has a caption, on another it hasn’t.
Have you tried to turn off all plugins and reactivate them one by one to figure out the one that kills the layout?

Das Theme ist echt super – ich habe mich gleich “verliebt” und es genutzt um meine Seite von einem alten 1990-Designe auf WordPress mit dem Theme umzustellen. Was mir nur aufgefallen ist, Du verzichtest komplett auf keywords und description im Header – wird da noch etwas kommen mit einem Update oder sollte man sich dafür ein Plugin installieren?

Für ein anständiges SEO empfehle ich Plugins zu nutzen. Ganz oben auf der Liste wpSEO* von Sergej Müller, was schon eher eine Waffe als ein Plugin ist. Daher habe ich bewusst auf solche Angaben verzichtet, diese sind jedem selbst überlassen nach meiner bescheidenen Meinung.

Da gebe ich Dir grundsätzlich recht. Dachte nur ein eine Zeile ähnlich des “Kommentar Vermerks”, dass man so eine allgemeine keyword Zeile setzen kann, wenn man mag. Halt optional, auch für Leute die nicht selber im Theme rumfummeln wollen oder denen das Plugin evtl. zu teuer ist.
Aber ich werd mir das Plugin auf jeden Fall mal genauer ansehen, auf den ersten Blick sah das sehr gut aus… Danke!

Sorry, but this is a free theme where I spend weeks of developing for and I think the copyright lines in the footer are the minimum entitlement for my work. So I won’t give here any way to change the copyright in the footer area.
In a payed theme you mostly find an option in the theme settings to deactivate the footer lines for copyright, but as I said, this is a free theme. So I ask you to understand my point.
That’s fine — in fact, I would happily have a separate copyright notice for your theme. But what the notice says is:
Which gives credit to you for the theme, but the first line makes it seem like I “Reserve all rights” on the content of my site. I prefer to use a Creative Commons license on my site, and would like to change the part that folllows my name.
In other words, I don’t want to change the line about your theme, but rather the copyright line which seems to apply to my site. I

nur eine kure Frage zu dem o.g. Thema, ich teste das Thema “grey opaque” auf meinem Localhost unter XAAMP und, logisch WP
…
Ändere dort schon den Header (Bild), setze die Fancy Box für Pic’s/Galerie/Video ein, wober der UND JETZT KOMMT der springende Punkt, die JS Scripte in der Header.php im Beerich eingebunden sind und FUNKTIONIEREN einwandfrei, NUR, habe ich jetzt ein PopUp fenster Script dort eingebunden und rufe uber das WIDGET “TEXT” dieses auf der Page auf.
Der Name der dort auch angeklickt wird und extern eine contact.php Page öffnet funktioniert, NUR, es erscheint es nicht im PopUp sondern auf einer neuen Page (_blank)…

Was hat das mit Grey Opaque zu tun? Dies ist der Supportbereich für das Theme, nicht für fremde Scripte oder PLugins. Auch gebe ich hier keine Nachhilfe in JS und/oder HTML, sorry, aber die Zeit hab ich wirklich nicht.
Dann hatte ich mich falsch ausgedrückt…
ES GEHT um das Thema Grey Opaque und einfach ausgedrückt, wo sollte man am sinnvollsten diese “externen” Scripts plazieren, in der header.php, der function.php usw, denn mit den JS spreche ich direkt das Thema an und nicht den WP Bereich.
Ähnlich verhält es sich mit der themeneigenen style.css, dort hab ich auch innerhalb der
existierenden css einen eigenen bereich programmiert
mit eigenem “link-verhalten”, nur dort ist nicht dokumentiert, zu was, WAS gehört nur folgendes:

was gehört zum HEADER, wa zur RECHTEN SITEBAR, FOOTER (davon gibt es mehrere)
Ich kenne dies von meinen Flashprogrammierungen, wenn ich das action script dem Kunden gebe, habe ich auch eine Dokumentation dabei, wo er was ändern und finden kann..
Die documentation.php (falls diese als Beschreibung dienen sollet) usw. wie die readme von Grey Opaque ist leer.
ES GEHT hie NICHT darum dass Sie mir Programmierunterstützung bieten sollen, Programmieren kann ich selber, sondern darum, das auch der vll. Laie etwas in diesem Grey Opaque Template ändern kann, wo er was finden kann usw. ohne das nachher das Template nicht mehr funtioniert.
Ich arbeite mit Adobe Creative Suite 6, Dreamweaver usw. und Topstyle Pro.

Auch auf die Gefahr hin, mich zu wiederholen, es geht hier nicht um Grey Opaque, sondern um eine eigene Erweiterung. Zu dieser gebe ich hier keinerlei Support und Unterstützung. Wer das Theme ändern will, kann dies gerne tun, jedoch sollten grundlegende Kenntnisse in der Programmierung mit PHP und der von WordPress verwendeten Mechaniken vorhanden sein. Etwas ActionScript reicht da nicht aus. Auch sollte man, bevor man sich über fehlende Dokumentation beschwert fragen, wieso dies so ist. Dies ist ein Theme für den Anwender, welcher auch im Backend eine Dokumentation der Funktionen und Fähogkeiten des Themes vorfindet. Diese ist natürlich für einen Entwickler absolut unzureichend, da es sich bei der Themedokumentation wirklich nur um eine Beschreibung der Möglichkeiten des Themes für den Anwender handelt. Für mehr ist das Theme auch nicht gedacht. Es ist kein “Blanco-Theme”, sondern ein “as is”.
Wer dieses Theme ändern oder anpassen will, kann dies gerne tun, jedoch wie gesagt, dafür sind grundlegende Kenntnisse vorausgesetzt. Jeder Entwickler ist in der Lage das CSS zu lesen und zu interpretieren, da es wirklich sehr einfach gestrickt ist. Dazu gibt es auch einige kleine Helferlein (Addons im Firefox) die einem das Leben sehr vereinfachen können. Doch wer nicht einmal die grundlegenden Mechaniken der WordPress-Programmierung kennt, ist hierbei falsch. Und zu dieser Gruppe zähle ich jetzt einfach mal den momentanen Fall.
Ich bin – wie ich bereits in meinem vorherigen Kommentar vermerke – nicht bereit hier die grundlegenden Kenntnisse im Umgang mit HTML/CSS/JavaScript oder gar der WordPress-Prgrammierung zu lehren. Dazu fehlt mir schlichtweg die Zeit. Es sind im weltweiten Netz und sogar in meinem eigenen Blog mehr als genug Tutorials und Beispiele zu finden in denen genau dies erklärt wird.
Also mein Tipp, beschäftige Dich mit JavaScript, Eventhandlern in HTML, PHP, WordPress und natürlich CSS und es ist kein Thema hier auch eigene Scripte einzubinden.
In diesem Sinne wiederhole ich es gerne noch mal, dieser Supportbereich bezieht sich lediglich auf das Theme Grey Opaque und Fragen die direkt das Theme betreffen und nicht WordPress oder gar die grundlegende Programmierung.
